An animated guide to Frequency Trails (aka Joyplots) – Oct 2017

Frequency trails, or currently better known as joyplots, is a visualization method to show multiple distributions at once. Here you have a nice animated guide of how to read and how to put those together.

North korea missile tests – June 2017

This quick project visualizes the North Korean missile tests, their successfulness and range. It creatively composes the available data, putting together multiple granularities and dimensions.

Orama – May 2017

Javascript library for creating React charts. Developed to produce basic charts with concise code and high level abstractions, Orama lets the developer freely declare and compose data that maps to lines, areas, circles, etc; while relying on the library for automatically extracting types, setting up scales, axis, tool-tips and responsive behavior.

The library has great code coverage, is battle tested and production ready; powering up the charts of Kensho platform, an award winning financial analytics company.

Urban villages – May 2014

Developed with the MIT Senseable City Lab, this visualization explores the data from 15 months of telecommunication in Portugal Cities. It focus in the phone contacts that people have in each city, and how those scale according to the city population size.

The world population project – April 2014

Proof of concept developed for the World Bank with the objective of providing context to their world population data and how it continuously grow and change by the second.

Tweet bursts – February 2014

Work developed for a partnership between Ericsson and the MIT Senseable City Lab, the visualization unveil the relationship between the length of tweets and mass excitement during collective social events.

Enermon – December 2013

New visualization system for monitoring energy spending (water, electricity, gas, CO2, etc.) developed for the Irish company Annandale. The visualization provided in the same view both small multiples of all the measures, organized by type and group; and a drill down view with multiple time-frames. The drill down view offered tools for comparing and summing values.

Retórica parlamentar – October 2013

Work done for the Brazilian House of Representatives. This visualization shows the main topics in 14,000 speeches from Brazilian deputies, and the presence of the deputies in each topic.

Syria delivery logistics – April 2013

Developed as a proof of concept for the Lebanon company Eqlim, the visualization shows the impact that the Syria war in 2013 had on deliveries across the countries.

Confederations Cup – April 2013

Developed for the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo, this data visualization shows the data from all games from the confederations cups. The focus was to give three levels of information at the same time: the performance of the teams across cups, the performance of a team in one cup and the result of every game.

Weather temperatures – February 2013

By overlaying historical weather data, this visualization shows how the temperature evolves during the year in selected cities. By setting out a comfort zone band, it's possible to see when the temperature is above, inside or bellow the zone; both across the year as across the days of each season.

Steps walked per day – December 2012

Visualization of the number steps taken per day during a year, highlighting also patterns across weeks and day of the week.

Wood dimensional changes – August 2012

Wood changes its size according to the exchange of moisture with the environment. This series of visualizations aim to help understand this process, and show how different types of wood, wood cut and the weather influence the process.
